How To File Your Trades With Turbo Tax

TurboTax only allows you to import Form 8949. If you are marked-to-market, you will not be able to import the Form 4797. You can attach it to your file as a PDF.

TraderFyles integrates directly into TurboTax (CD/Download/Desktop) to make it easier for investors to report trading activity on their tax returns. Users can now automatically import data created in TraderFyles to their TurboTax (CD/Download/Desktop) account.

TurboTax Online users, follow these steps here.

First, generate a new tax report using either 1099-B Match or Audit My Broker by clicking 'New Report', whichever reporting tool meets your needs. Then, review the data. After the data looks correct and your profit/loss looks correct, click 'Generate Documents' .

Next, choose 'Turbo Tax Integration Report' from the options and click 'Confirm'.

Start your tax return in TurboTax (CD/Download/Desktop).  Note that the transaction limit using this version of turbo tax  is 10,000.  If you are above 10,000 transactions, refer to the instructions here for sending your Form 8949 separately.

On TurboTax (CD/Download/Desktop), select File -> Import -> From Accounting Software (Windows) or File -> Import -> From TXF Files (Mac)

Select Software (TXF file) and click Continue

Select the TXF file you saved from TraderFyles and click "Import Now"

Click Done on the next screen

To review the added information, go to Personal -> Personal Income and scroll down to Investment Income
